About Joey
I grew up on a 500 acre farm outside of Bellingen in the mid north coast of NSW. I had a very physical and fun farm-life and played representative soccer. On the 3rd of March 1994 at age 14 I joined the local gym: This would change my life forever.
I loved weight training right from the beginning. I grew strong quickly and it all just made sense. I devoured bodybuilding magazines and experimented with new exercises and training programs. Within a year I had won a national bench press competition. By 16 I was working at the gym part-time, training with the owner and writing programs for myself and members. I couldn’t get enough.
I finished high-school then completed a 3 year university degree in Human Movement and Exercise Science. I moved to Sydney in 2000 and started my personal training company ‘Beyond Your Goals Personal Training Services’ or BYG PT.
When I reached full capacity with clients I created Australian Weight Training to advocate my training system to a wider audience. My ambition is to provide the most effective and efficient weight training programs available on the internet. I love the challenge of writing the perfect program for individual situations and specific goals – especially problem body-parts. Each week I create new exercises and develop new techniques. I never do the same workout twice.
A life of intense, technical, creative, drug-free, hard-core weight training has proven what works and what doesn’t. Thousands of personal training sessions have qualified this beyond a doubt. After 16 years of full-on training I still can’t wait to get to the gym each day. I just love it.
